Tsitsikamma Mountain Trail - 2 to 6 day hiking trail

The Tsitsikamma Trail journeying through extensive indigenous forest and mountain fynbos. Ancient river gorges and abundant rivers and streams continually remind us of the creative power of water and the origins of the word Tsitsikamma.

Beginning in Nature's Valley and ending 60-km further at either the Storms River Bridge or Village, this six day, unidirectional trail takes hikers through the heart of the Tsitsikamma Mountains . Shorter variations (2, 3, 4 or 5 days) are possible as each overnight hut has its own unique access route with safe parking at the start.

Optional equipment porterage now provides hikers with the chance of having all their equipment transported between overnight huts. Other activities now permitted include vehicular and mountain bike access to certain overnight huts and informative guided day walks.
The trail's overnight accommodation facilities have been upgraded to an excellent standard and you can truly enjoy magnificent views and relax in comfort at each of the five overnight huts. Baboon, vervet monkey, large-spotted genet, bushpig and bushbuck are often encountered along the route and at overnight huts. Leopard, serval, caracal, honey badger and blue duiker also occur, but are seldom seen. The forests provide ideal habitat for lesser seen bird species, such as rameron pigeon, narina trogon, sombre bulbul, forest buzzard, and colourful sunbirds and flycatchers. The fynbos harbours elusive endemics such as Victorin's warbler, protea canary and the Cape siskin.

Moontide Guest Lodge - Wilderness

Set amidst 400-year-old milkwood trees and a profusion of birds and plants, Moontide is the most romantic of retreats. Located on the shores of the Wilderness lagoon, with gardens that flow into its tidal waters, the lodge is a birdwatchers paradise. Moontide Guest Lodge offers seven en-suite cottages and rooms, each with their own entrance and outdoor seating area. A separate lounge (with TV) and dining room is available for guests, as well as decks and patios with tables and deck chairs, on the waters edge overlooking the lagoon with its rich bird life. Start the day with a great breakfast, served on the terrace overlooking the lagoon. An English and buffet breakfast is served under the 400 year old Milkwood trees in our luxuriant garden. Help yourself to a buffet table of cereals, yoghurt, cheese, breads, juice and milk. The on-duty manager will then offer you a choice of hot breakfast options, served with a bottomless pot of excellent filter coffee, or breakfast or Rooibos tea.Moontide is well located within Wilderness - at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, it is the only lodge right on the lagoon, yet the beach is a four minute stroll from here, while the charming Milkwood Village, with its craft shops, informal eateries and health spa is a 10 minute walk (or three minute drive) away.

They mock everything from bygone days' oddities and calamities until 2010 ... by ways of whacky words, ratty rhymes and silly songs.
