VIVA OUTDOOR LIVING - Interior Decorating Tips For November 2009!

“COMBINE STYLE WITH COMFORT, ADD A LITTLE BIT OF OUTDOOR MAGIC AND THE MOOD IS SET FOR AN INVITING OUTDOOR RETREAT!”

The patio - By clever planning and a bit of effort, the patio area can easily be turned into an outdoor extension of the living areas.
Patio furniture is usually the focal point of this area – Variations are endless; from feather light aluminum, stainless steel, wood to plastics! For a really weather resistance guarantee be sure to use only 100 % solution dyed acrylic fabrics for your cushions! These outdoor fabrics should be Teflon coated, be water, oil, stain and even mildew resistant!

Bright ideas for outdoor living

* Braais
A fast growing trend as an alternative for a build- in or free-standing braai is to install a mini outdoor kitchen. These comprise a grill island that comes complete with a build in sink, preparation space and a bar fridge. It has never been easier!

* Lighting
Create a sufficient and pleasing nightscape by installing enough lighting. Use citronella candles for unwanted guests and fairy lights to bring in romantic charm

* Water features
A fountain or small water feature will add a sumptuous feel. Running water also helps to obscure outside noises and create a relaxing atmosphere.

* Heating
By installing an outdoor fireplace or by using a free-standing gas alternative the patio area can be used even through winter. Mexican clay pots add both atmosphere and warmth!

* Storage
Include a mini storage facility or a large cupboard to store away detailed items like hammocks, burners, outdoor chandeliers, etc.

Eisbein, Bratwurst and Beer!

Schwabinger Stuben - Restaurant, Deli, Butcher Shop, Catering for all occasions

Hungry for a typical German restaurant? Stop looking! Schwabinger Stuben has come to George! The restaurant is next to the Alpine Inn, a 3-star graded Hotel in Blanco that is part of the same business. The restaurant is for the people. "Schwabinger Stuben is a welcoming, hearty sort of place where people can feel at home and have a good time. The food is traditional German home cooking, the portions are very large and the prices extremely reasonable. The SPECIALITY dish is Eisbein and the Schwabinger Stuben has a large variety of rustic German dishes to choose from."

Schwabinger Stuben also has a beer garden with its own bar and pizza oven where they prepare pizza, spare ribs and bake German bread. The restaurant seats more than 150 people and is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner from Monday to Saturday, as well Sunday for Breakfast & Lunch, Sunday eve closed.

Have a good time, and best of all: If you decide to have a drink or two, book a room and spend the night!

Next to the restaurant is a Butcher shop & Deli the goods made by their own German Master butcher. They specialize in German sausages, cold meats, Alpine Ham, Sauerkraut, mustards and many more good German products to choose from.

All forms of outside catering is available, while the German Master butcher/chef can be booked to train kitchen staff in hygiene, food handling, buffets and catering. There was a time when outside catering was a braai in the back garden or a Sunday picnic. Today the scene has changed completely. So much so that many events are conducted outside. They could be corporate events, a garden wedding reception, or even a family fun day. The Schwabinger Stuben can prepare a full 5 course meal or keep it as simple as a spit braai. The choice is yours. This is of course determined by the catering event. Alpine Inn Catering will deliver you unrivalled personal service together with stunning, mouth-watering food.The Schwabinger Stuben Alpine Inn is exactly what the Southern Cape needs. Fantastic German food at reasonable prices where friends can gather.

Harley Davidson Tour Group Visits Storms River Guest Lodge.

The Storms River Guest Lodge is situated in the Storms River Village, which nestles in the beautiful Tsitsikamma Forest and is surrounded by the Tsistikamma Mountains. Here owner Nora Nel, her right hand, the friendly Martitia, and other staff members offers guests accommodation in spacious, upmarket and comfortable, en-suite rooms, all with private entrances.

Recently a Harley Davidson Tour Group visited the Storms River Guest Lodge and spent the night at this lovely accommodation establishment in the Storms River Village….

"You can hear them from a mile away and anybody can recognise the sound…a Harley Davidson.
On 21 September we, Storms River Guest Lodge, had the privilege of accommodating RKTC Tours – a tour group on the back of a Harley Davidson.
While some went for the Tree Top Canopy Tours, others enjoyed watching the cricket (including Graham Smith’s father – Graham Smith) in our communal television room.

The evening started with penalty drinks for whoever did something funny or wrong during the day (like forgetting to use indicators) And then the evening meal was served – a four course buffet in our Copper Kettle Restaurant.

After a full English Breakfast the next morning, it was time to leave. The roaring farewell, as everyone left together and the hosts waving good bye – the Harleys away until next time."

Feverish Spring Fever – interior tips for October 2009

Spring is feverishly in the air – jump out under the winter blanket and embrace the most beautiful season!

* By using brightly coloured floral fabrics Springs number one trend becomes BLOOMING marvelous – use as slipcover and alter your interior scheme instantly.
* New uses for old furniture – an old neglected suitcase becomes the center piece Coffee table
* Take an old frame from a not-so- original work of art, insert a painted black chipboard piece in the inside of the frame, brush a few strokes of magic gold paint on the frame and…… wow! A new NOTICE board.

* Screw in castors in a used wooden crate and create new storage for kid’s toys or books

* Revamp tired and boring curtains by inserting yumie colours at least a third from the hemline.
